The Frog and the ox

The Frog and the ox

“Oh Father,” said a little Frog to the big one sitting by the side of a pool, “I have seen such a terrible monster! It was as big as a mountain, with horns on its head, and a long tail, and it had hoofs divided in two.

“Tush, child, tush,” said the old Frog, “that was only Farmer White’s Ox.
It isn’t so big either; he may be a little bit taller than I, but Icould easily make myself quite as broad; just you see.” So he blew himself out, and blew himself out, and blew himself out. “Was he as big as that?” asked he.

“Oh, much bigger than that,” said the young Frog. Again the old one blew himself out, and asked the young one if the Ox was as big as that.

“Bigger, father, bigger,” was the reply. So the Frog took a deep breath, and blew and blew and blew, and swelled and swelled and swelled. And then he said: “I’m sure the Ox is not as big as But at this moment he burst.

The Fox and the Crow

The Fox and the Crow

One day, while he was out walking, a fox saw a crow swoop down and pick up a piece of cheese in its beak. The crow then flapped its wings and flew up onto a high branch in a nearby tree.

“Man, that’s a tasty looking piece of cheese,” said the fox to himself.

“Hey, I should have that cheese. I’m the fox and I deserve it,” he said. “I’m a sly, smooth talking fox too. I’ll have it soon enough.”

The fox walked over to the foot of the tree. “Hi ya, Miss Crow” cried the fox.

“How are you today?” asked the fox. “You’re looking mighty fine. Is there something different about you? Have you changed shampoo?”
“Your feathers look so glossy and black and your eyes are sparkling like diamonds,” said the fox, flattering the crow. “Hey, have you lost weight? Your figure looks great,”

“Wow, if you can sing as good as you look then I’ll have to call you Queen of all Birds” said the fox.

Flattered by all the compliments from the fox, and wanting to be called Queen of all Birds, the crow lifted her head and began to sing.

But the moment she opened her mouth the cheese fell out, and the quick fox jumped and caught it before it hit the ground.

“Yes!!!” yelled the fox, holding the cheese up over his head as he did his victory dance. “I got what I wanted.”

The fox looked up at the sad crow in the tree. “To show you I’m not a really bad guy I’ll give you some advice for the future” he said to the crow.

“Never trust a flatterer.”

The Foolish Wolf’s Flute

 The Foolish Wolf’s Flute

A lot lamb wandered to the edge of the woods where it was concentrated on grazing without being cautious.

A hungry wolf walked out of the woods to go to the pasture where many sheep grazed.

On its way, it met the lost lamb and was happy that it did not have to risk going to the flock where there were sheep dogs and watchful shepherds.

“How nice that dinner has walked to me without me doing any work” it went to the lamb who was still grazing, unaware.

The wolf ran towards the lamb to eat it. When the wolf got close, the lamb saw and tried to escape, but the wolf was too fast.

As the wolf was about to kill the lamb, an idea struck in the lamb’s mind.

The lamb pleaded, “Oh wolf! I know that I am going to die now. Will you be kind enough to fulfil my last wish?”

The wolf asked, “What is your last wish?” The lamb replied, “I am fond of music. Before I die, I wish to hear you play the flute.” The wolf agreed and played the flute.

When the wolf stopped the lamb said, “Oh! what beautiful music! Will you play a bit louder, please? You play far better than my shepherd”.

The wolf was pleased by the flattery and started to play louder. In the mean time, the shepherd and the dogs who were in search of the missing lamb heard the sound. They came running and caught hold of the wolf. The lamb happily trotted away to his flock.

“If there is a will there is a way. “

The Hare and The Tortoise

When the tortoise heard that ridiculous words, he laughed and replied “I will beat you in a race, though you can run as fast as the wind.”

The Hare believed in his speed and thought that it was simple impossible, so he assented to the proposal.

They agreed that the fox should choose the course and fix the destination.

On the day appointed for the race the hare and the tortoise started together at the course which the fox chose.

The tortoise never stopped for a moment.

He went on with a slow but steady pace straight to the destination.

The hare ran faster than the tortoise, but when he nearly reached the end of the course he lay down carelessly by the wayside and fell fast asleep.

At last the hare awaked up and ran as fast as he could.

When he reached the goal he saw the tortoise was comfortably dozing after his effort.

The tortoise had been the winner already.
